59 PM Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Coordinator assists in planning and coordinating recreation programs and activities at assigned city facilities, including after school programs, contractual classes, youth, adult, and senior services and activities, sports leagues, and facility rental.
The successful candidate will coordinate events at other off-site locations, promote program activities, and perform a variety of tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility.
The Recreation Coordinator may provide work direction and training to other event and program staff.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will possess one or more years of specialized knowledge in planning and coordinating recreation programs and activities for children, youth, teens, adult and senior citizen services.
The incumbent will possess and Associates degree or higher in recreation, leisure studies or a related field.
The ideal candidate shall be able to work independently and use best judgement.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an excitement in providing creative and innovative recreation programs to patrons.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assists in planning, conducting and evaluating recreation programs and activities at assigned city facilities including contractual classes, adult, youth and senior citizen activities, sports leagues, after school programs, and facility rental.
Provides face-to-face program leadership in athletics, arts and crafts, Tiny Tots, social, children's services, senior citizens, teens, youth and adult activities.
Maintains order among facility patrons; selects and purchases equipment and supplies for programs, activities and building maintenance.
Issues equipment; promotes and publicizes programs, leagues and activities.
Prepares program event and facility marketing material including news releases, flyers, schedules of events, pamphlets and brochures.
Coordinates and supervises youth, teen and adult sports leagues, coordinates use of facilities and fields.
May be assigned to supervise, train, evaluate and schedule staff.
Collects and accounts for program fees and registration.
Prepares deposits and maintains records of recreation programs.
Prepares budgets, reports, invoices, statements, billings, and deposits for assigned programs.
Assists in preparing and administering contracts for recreational classes, contractual programs, camps, facility rentals, sports leagues, teen programs.
Responds to requests and inquiries from the general public.
Attends meetings as required.
Performs other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of basic first aid.
Basic principles of supervision and training.
Recreational activities, sports, arts and crafts or other specialized areas.
Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers.
Principles of business letter writing and basic report preparation.
Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes and regulations.
Ability to:
Be creative and innovative with recreation programs.
Work with children, young adults, adults and/or senior citizens and give effective guidelines to patrons.
Maintain records and prepare reports.
Maintain and update accurate records and files.
Prepare clear and concise reports.
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
EDUCATION AND
Experience:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Education:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth 12th grade supplemented by college level course work in recreation, leisure studies or a related field.
Experience:
One (1) year of responsible experience coordinating, planning, implementing and supervising recreational programs and activities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
The ability to convey oneself to and from geographical locations frequently and timely, or possession of a valid CA driver's license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
Position may require working some weekend and evening hours; may be required to adjust work schedule to meet recreational needs.

Retirement:
The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan and does not contribute to Social Security.
Classic employees - 2% @55 formula, highest 3-year average compensation PEPRA employees - hired after 1/1/13 or Classic employee with 6- month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula, highest 3 year average compensation Leave:
Employees earn 120 hours of vacation and 96 hours of sick leave per year.
Union Membership:
This position is non-exempt and subject to the overtime rules of the Federal Labor Standards Board and is part of the Service Employees' International Union group (SEIU).
